Story Time⬇️⬇️⬇️ about why I made this @frankmillerofficial homage of Cobra sun and Lona Steelrose and why it means so much to me.
I had a 20 year long hiatus from comic books. My dad used to bring me home comics when I was really young and I always loved them but aside from a graphic novel(The Dark Knight Returns being one of them) and manga volume here and there I didn’t really engage with them for about 20 years. Then out of nowhere, 8 months ago I randomly saw a drawing on instagram that would change my artistic trajectory and my life if I am being honest. That picture was drawn by none other than the legend himself @danielwarrenart and it was the main cover of his incredible book called “Do a Powerbomb”. When I saw it I was immediately hooked by its raw and expressive energy. I wanted to know more but I was a bit hesitant because I’m by no means a wrestling fan but I ended up buying it anyways. Once I started reading it I couldn’t stop, I ended up reading the whole series in one sitting. From there it opened up an entire world for me that I had been largely blind to for the majority of my life. This was all happening at a time where I was having major doubts about myself as an artist due to AI and other things. But reading that book and living in the world he had expertly crafted, even for that small moment, lit a fire inside of me that I hadn’t had for a very long time. I decided that day that I would do whatever I had to in order to become a professional comic book artist. I know I have a long way to go and I’m just getting started. I don’t know if you will see this but I just wanted to say thank you to Daniel for being that push for me over the edge into the crazy awesome world that is comic books!
If you read this far thanks lol I know it was long winded but moments like these are important to share with others so thank you for letting me share!
This clip is a bit of insight to the process I go through for creating something like this. Digital layout followed by traditional pencil and inks on 11x17 Bristol board and then scanned and colored digitally.
